Review

Our review services include quality control of professional translations to Serbian (from English) and to English (from Serbian).

Please note that we only review translations done by other professional translators and only if we’re provided with both the source and target text. This is important because a review starts by first comparing the source text and translation to ensure accuracy, but also to make sure that no part of the source text was omitted or misinterpreted. Examining the source text also allows us to check if the technical terms were translated correctly.

Apart from accuracy, a review also aims to ensure that a translation complies with rules and standards of the target language and culture. At this stage, we examine translation only, without referencing the source text. The first thing to check is whether all grammatical and orthographic rules are adhered to, and if any mistakes are identified, they should be remedied.

The last stage is fine-tuning, where details that are not necessarily mistakes are replaced by better solutions in terms of the appropriate style (e.g. formal vs informal, academic, journalistic, corporate), readability, and naturalness. This usually involves changes to the word choice, word order, etc.

Like a translator, a reviewer should also check if the translation sounds like a translation or a text originally written in the target language (which is the ultimate goal of every translation process) and whether the intent, i.e. the purpose of the translation is accomplished (for more information about Skopos theory, see Localization). During a review, it’s also essential to take into consideration the type of translation—non-certified translation, certified translation, or localization—and whether the respective conventions are conformed to.

If the reviewer assesses that the translation doesn’t meet the minimum quality criteria, the source text is translated from scratch.

The price of review is half the price of translation.
